Road Safety Action
Road safety is high on the agenda
The Safer Arun Partnership's residents' survey in 2010 shows that anti-social driving is an important issue in Arun's neighbourhoods, with only anti-social behaviour topping this. Anti-social driving can include speeding, drink driving, inconsiderate parking and using hand-held mobile phones.
In 2008 there were 34 people killed and 406 people seriously injured on the roads of West Sussex. Road safety and reducing these numbers is high on the agenda in the county and reducing casualties has been identified as a priority in Arun.
The Safer Arun Partnership Road Safety Action Group have links with the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership to raise awareness of road safety. This includes campaigns around drink driving, wearing seat belts and ensuring children are properly secured, and advice on making yourself visible when walking at night. Action is also being taken to reduce speed and educate young drivers caught driving in an anti-social manner.
Road safety messages are also being taken into schools to educate young people how to stay safe when using the roads as pedestrians, cyclists and as drivers when the time comes.
If you see anyone driving in a dangereous or antisocial mannere you can report them to Operation Crackdown
