  • Be aware of who is around you, especially in a busy and crowded places or when taking money out of cash points.
  • Ladies: keep your bag close to you and carry it over your shoulder. Keep your bag fastened at all times.

  • Keep your cards separate from your cheque book. If your cards are stolen, call your bank or credit card company as soon as possible.
  • Memorise your PIN; don’t write it down.
  • Spread your valuables around; for example, try to keep your mobile phone, house keys and money in different pockets or bags.
  • If you are using a pushchair, don’t leave your bag on the hood or in the bottom.
  • When shopping, do not leave your bag or purse on the trolley or basket and don’t leave them lying around while you pay.
  • Never leave your bag or purse unattended, even for a minute.
  • If you use a wheelchair don’t leave your bag on the back unless someone is pushing you.
  • If someone does try to take something from you, it may be better to let them have it. Your personal safety is more important than your property.
  • Use a purse chain to attach your purse / wallet to your belt. These are readily available at your local police station.
