Our Priorities

The Partnership Plan

The Safer Arun Partnership's residents' survey carried out during 2010 clearly showed that anti-social behaviour is people's number one concern.

The need to focus on anti-social behaviour is also supported by the number of reported incidents and the demands on the anti-social behaviour team.

The Safer Arun Partnership has agreed the following two priorities for 2011/12:

  • Anti-Social Behaviour, focussing on both people and place. People where individuals and families are causing harm to communities, and place where environmental crime such as graffiti, fly-tipping and litter is blighting neighbourhoods.
  • Trust and Confidence. Did you know that crime in Arun has fallen significantly in recent years? Did you know that the district is actually one of the safest places to live in the UK? Our second target is all about finding out why people either don't know or don't trust the crime figures and still believe that they will be a victim of crime.  It's a very difficult one to address - making people feel safer and better understand what is happening around them. The Safer Arun Partnership will work with communities to understand problems and, together with local people, find a way of solving problems that best suits that community.
  • Integrated Offender Management (IOM) - The Government is committed to rehabilitating offenders (through its proposed Breaking the Cycle white paper) recognising that this approach derives the greatest benefits for both offenders and their communities. The Safer Arun Partnership has therefore adopted IOM as a strategic priority. By developing a co-ordinated approach to address the criminogenic needs of offenders, it will improve the effectiveness of IOM, thus reducing the demand on the criminal justice system and provide tangible benefits to local individuals, families and communities.

Just because we are focussing on the three targets above does not mean we will ignore all other crime and disorder.

The Safer Arun Partnership's Joint Action Group will remain on top of crime hotspots across the district so that these can be addresses quickly and effectively.
