Pevensey Neighbourhood Agreement

The Safer Arun Partnership, in partnership with local residents, is currently developing a Neighbourhood Agreement in part of the Pevensey Ward of Bognor Regis.  This agreement is a document which aims to give local people more say in the services they receive, encouraging them to be more active in their communities, and to build trust and mutual respect between them and the agencies providing the services.

This month we hear from Di Dowling, a resident within the Neigbourhood Agreement area, who has been working with the Safer Arun Partnership as a member of the steering group.

The idea of a neighbourhood agreement has been met with some enthusiasm by the residents of Wadhurst Close.   A door-to-door petition was completed and the Wadhurst Neighbourhood Watch team introduced themselves and offered to be spokespeople on their behalf at local NW meetings.  The neighbourhood agreement was also brought up and residents were encouraged to complete and return the survey when received.  The door-to-door provided a beneficial insight as to problems other residents were encountering.  Additionally it provided reassurance to some who felt like they were suffering on their own and were grateful that some of the issues were already being tackled.

The neighbourhood agreement will hopefully bring the Close together more and the majority of the residents we spoke to were keen on the idea especially if it has positive results in our community.  Main concerns of residents were anti-social behaviour and have been encouraging the use of the non-emergency police number to report problems to ensure that the police have awareness of all problems we encounter.  Assurance was also provided by the fact that the ADC anti-social behaviour team were also part of the agreement and that council tenants also have to sign up to it.
